WHAT WERE JEWISH PARTISANS?

At the beginning of World War Two, in 1939, Germany, ruled by Adolf Hitler invaded Poland at its western border. At the time there were 3.5 million Jews living in Poland, and about 130,000 of then were soldiers in the Polish army who later got discharged and put in concentration camps even though they made up 10% of the army. Many Jews then felt threatened and some ran to the forests where they were joined by other Jews. Some of them learned how to use a gun and received minor military training. They were mostly trained in sabotage, ambushes, and raids because they knew that they could not take on the German army head-on. Soon after that Jews in other countries like Lithuania, The Soviet Union, and Yugoslavia followed. In all, there were about 20,000 to 30,000 Jews in all of Europe that joined these partisan groups.
